In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Jackson/Teton County Housing Department and the Jackson/Teton County Housing Authority Board (JTCHA Board) have taken the following actions for  JTCHA tenants, JTCHA homeowners, and the community at-large. 

Weighted Drawings and Requalifications

On May 6, 2020 the Housing Authority Board approved the following accomodations to applicants and households that need to requalify:

  • Allow an exception to the 1,560 work hours requirement to those who can verify that their work hours were reduced due to COVID-19 business closures. 
  • Allow the Housing Department to determine if this policy should continue to 2021 as well

For JTCHA Tenants

On April 1, 2020 the Housing Authority Board approved the following accommodations for JTCHA tenants:

  • Waived April and May 2020 late fees for tenants seeking rent deferrals.
  • Allowed tenants impacted by COVID-19 to request a one-month deferral for April and May rent. 
  • Tenants will be allowed to apply for a one-month deferral for June rent beginning May 20, 2020. The rent deferral application will be available starting May 20, 2020 and will be due by May 29, 2020.

On May 6, 2020 the Housing Authority Board approved the following:

  • To freeze rental rates for the 2020/2021 lease term keeping them at the 2019/2020 rates.

For JTCHA Homeowners

  • JTCHA homeowners must continue to meet the requirements of their restriction, including occupying their home as their primary residence. 
  • JTCHA homeowners may request a Leave of Absence if they are required to leave their home due to COVID-19 related issues including loss of employment, illness, etc. Homeowners may access this document online here. Please contact the Housing Department for more information: or 307-732-0867.

Community Resources

The Housing Department is partnering with local social service organizations to provide temporary shelter for those experiencing a loss housing for COVID-19 related reasons. This may include illness, eviction, or other safety concerns. Please see the links below for community resources.

  • Rent and Mortgage Relief through Wyoming Community Development Authority: Applications are available at beginning June 4, 2020. Up to $2,000 per month in relief for qualifying households.

  • Freddie Mac Renter Helpline: If you are a renter living in an apartment or other multifamily rental housing with five or more units and you’re struggling to pay your rent as a result of COVID-19, a natural disaster, or other difficulties, you may be able to receive assitance if your apartment is financed through Freddie Mac.   • Teton County Roadmap to Recovery Plan: The Teton County Health Department has released Teton County’s overall plan for transitioning into the stabilization phase of the COVID-19 emergency called Teton County Roadmap to Recovery Plan. This plan also contains public health guidance for the general public, high-risk individuals, businesses, and organizations. The guidance can be found at The guidance includes physical distancing and hygiene measures that residents should continue to follow as the landscape of COVID-19 shifts and changes throughout the foreseeable future in Teton County.
