Candidates filing for office by Independent Petition will be required to obtain signatures of not less than 2% of registered electors that cast votes for representative in congress in the last General Election.
288 registered elector signatures are required for a successful independent candidate petition for the 2022 General Election.
Petitions must be approved by the appropriate filing office prior to circulation.
If you are interested in starting a independent petition to run for a County Office, please contact elections@tetoncountywy.gov or call 307-733-4430. Our office must approve your petition form before it is circulated for signatures.
Petitions can be circulated for signatures only during the calendar year in which the election for the office sought is to be held.
Petitions shall be filed no less than 70 days before a general election with the County Clerk (local candidates) or the Secretary of State (statewide candidate). The deadline to file a petition is August 29, 2022 at 5pm. Petitions must be accompanied by a $100.00 filing fee when submitted to the County Clerk’s office.
The Secretary of State or County Clerk shall determine from the official list of registered electors whether sufficient valid signatures have been obtained.
