You cannot properly prepare for disasters unless you understand the risks for your area and how to respond to them. Everyone should learn about the specific disasters that can affect the region. You can check out Ready.gov's "Be Informed" page for additional information on those same disasters, plus others that aren't as likely to affect Teton County.
Another great way to Be Informed is to take a preparedness class. The Bridger-Teton Branch of the American Red Cross offers CPR, First Aid, and other classes. Call them at 307-733-4049 for more information. Teton County Emergency Management also offers preparedness classes and will do general preparedness presentations for civic groups. Call 307-733-9572 or email Emergency Management to schedule a presentation. Additionally, Jackson Hole Fire/EMS also offers fire prevention and mitigation presentations for the public. You can call Fire Administration at 307-733-4732 or email them to schedule a presentation or for more information.
Even if you don't have time to attend a class in person, there are still plenty of opportunities to Be Informed about preparedness. FEMA offers great online classes for the public on a variety of topics.
Visit the RQ website to see what your "Readiness Quotient" is (if you live and work outside of Teton County, visit this site instead). This is a short quiz that will give you a score and let you know how "ready" you are. Additionally, your score is recorded with your zip code to give local Emergency Managers an idea of how prepared their communities are.
